actions in the past, but affects continue or have reference to the present (e.g. Roberto ha venduto la casa- Roberto has sold the house / Non ho ricevuto una lettera- I didnt recieve a letter today).
English uses present perfect, (e.g. its the first time ive seen him) but italiano uses present tense (e.g. è la prima volta che lo vedo) (in english, pp often ends in -ed or -en. Many are irreg, both in ital & english) e.g. i have eaten, he has finished.

Reflexive Verbs
All verbs used reflexively take essere:
Mi sono svegliato all sette, mi sono alzato subitio, mi sono lavato, e mi sono vestito.
I woke up at 7, got up immediately, washed and dressed.
